According to her family, US actress Anne Heche is not expected to survive a car crash earlier this week that left her vehicle engulfed in flames.
She is still in a coma and suffered from "severe anoxic brain injury," which occurs when the brain is deprived of oxygen, according to the doctors.
"We would like to thank everyone for their well wishes and prayers for Anne's recovery, as well as the dedicated staff and wonderful nurses," they added.
Last week, her car collided with a two-story house in Los Angeles.
Preliminary blood tests revealed the presence of drugs in her system, according to police, but additional testing was required to rule out any substances administered in the hospital.

She was previously involved with talk show host Ellen DeGeneres, whom she dated in the late 1990s. Heche appeared in one of them.Ellen, the star's sitcom, aired an episode in 1998.
According to the LAFD, Heche's vehicle "erupted in heavy fire" after being driven 30 feet (9.1 metres) into the house, rendering the property "uninhabitable."
Her family said in a statement that she is being treated at the Grossman Burn Center at West Hills Hospital and is on life support to determine whether her organs are viable for donation.
